Monkey:Journey To The West

The Meridian Society is privileged to have the acclaimed director Mr Chen Shi-Zheng to deliver a Talk on Monkey: Journey To The West, a contemporary opera written, conceived and directed by him. This production is a triumph of collaboration – between old and new, sight and sound, East and West. This Talk is in association with the CSSA of The School of Oriental and African Studies, Imperial College and London School of Economics. We are expecting a large turnout; so pls rsvp to avoid disappointment.

Nonsense talk by the non-experts - To turn business into classics (外行人的妄说—把生意做成经典!)

The Meridian Society will be hosting a talk on Friday 7th November, 2008 in association with the CSSA of Imperial College, The School of Oriental and African Studies and London School of Economics. The lecture will be delivered by our chairman Mr David Liqun Su.

The Lecture entitled “Nonsense talk by the non-experts - To turn business into classics”. Mr Su will use the famous Ming Dynasty’s book called “List of business laws” by Li Jinde(李晋德)to correlate with the present global economic downturn. He maybe able to draw similarities from the book to today’s situation. He also likes to help everyone understand the Chinese Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, as well as the wisdom of the concept of family in the business of trade.

The Meridian Society will be hosting a talk on Friday 24th October, 2008 at the School of Oriental and African Studies. The lecture will be delivered by our chairman Mr David Liqun Su (苏立群先生) between 6.30pm-7.30pm.

Classification of Film, Video and DVD in the UK

The Meridian Society will be hosting a free public talk on Friday 10th October, 2008 at the School of Oriental and African Studies. The lecture will be delivered by Ms Wah-Yin Rixon, who has been a film, video and DVD examiner at the BBFC for over 10 years. She will use clips from Chinese films in her illustrated presentation and will take questions at the end of the talk.

"Picturing the Chinese: Early Western Photographs and Postcards of China” by Grace Lau on Thursday, 25th September, 7.00 – 9.00pm at the Photofusion Gallery, 17a Electric Lane, Brixtion, London, SW9 8LA . Photofusion is delighted to host the launch of Grace Lau's book, published by Joint Publishing Hong Kong and distributed by Long River Press, USA. A new look at old photographs, the book shows historical events in China that for most readers have existed until now only in words.

Limehouse "Chinatown" Walk

The Meridian Society and British Born Chinese Network are organizing jointly with the London Metropolitan Archive and the Chinese National Healthy Living Centre the Limehouse “Chinatown” Walk event on Saturday 16th August 2008. The meeting point is at Westferry Station (DLR) for 10.30am. This is the last walk organized under the project of ‘Footprints of the Dragon’ which will take participants back to the 19th century Chinatown; so it is not to be missed. The walk will take approximately 2.5-3 hrs. There is no admission fee! It is important for us to know how many people will attend the event. Pls RSVP to themeridiansociety@gmail.com.

bbcn - Dragon Boat Race

A CALL FOR ROWERS!

To celebrate this year's Dragon Boat Festival, the London Chinatown Lions Club is hosting a Dragon Boat Race on 8th June, 2008, at the Royal Albert Docks. This event is sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office. For more details, please go to www.lclc.co.uk BBCN would like to take part, but need 16 rowers and a drummer to make up our team.
